Near Enough: Scottish Borders, Upland Shepherd Huts

September 6, 2016

For my birthday Chris surprised me with a little trip to the Scottish Borders to stay at Upland Shepherd Huts. Situated in Abbey Saint Bathans, Upland Huts are situated about an hour away from Roulotte Retreat where we’d stayed in June. After how blown away we were with Roulotte Retreat, Chris knew he could trust anywhere he booked via Canopy & Stars and after quizzing me about places in the UK I’d like to visit, he made the booking. I…

Near Enough: Scottish Borders, Abbotsford

August 26, 2016

While we were in the Scottish Borders we visited the home of Sir Walter Scott, Abbotsford House. The car park and visitor centre were a short walk from the house and the journey to the house is through beautiful gardens. As we were visiting on a bright, warm June day we were surrounded by a vast array of flowers and colours. The house itself is relatively small in comparison to some stately homes I’ve visited but that was welcomed in…

Near Enough: Scottish Borders, Park Up and View

August 22, 2016

When we were on our little Scottish Borders adventure at Roulotte Retreat we realised that there were a number of places we could visit for free. They were park up and view places where we could take in the scenery and if we had been organised enough, enjoyed a picnic. I came across two of the locations by scouring Instagram ahead of our trip so I thought I’d save you the insta research and share them here. Lindean Loch (pictured…

Our Ideal Family Weekend Away – Joules Explorers

August 17, 2016

I’ve been prompted by the Joules Explorers competition to sit and think about our ideal family weekend away and after mulling it over, my response isn’t quite what I was expecting. I’m a planner and I need to have some kind of trip or event planned in the coming months. I do my research and when it comes to breaks away, I look at tens of destinations and accommodation options, weigh up the costs, see what activities are nearby and…

Near Enough: Scottish Borders, Melrose

August 6, 2016

The accomodation for our recent mini break in the Scottish Borders was a short drive from Melrose so we dined in the town on both evenings. On the first evening we arrived around 7pm which gave us enough time to eat at Marmions Brasserie that had been recommended both by our hosts at Roulotte Retreat and via twitter. There was only one other table occupied whilst we were there but that didn’t put us off. We decided to opt for…

Near Enough: Scottish Borders, Roulotte Retreat

July 12, 2016

For Chris’s birthday in June I had booked a little getaway to the Scottish Borders. I’d booked our accommodation before we discovered I was pregnant and had chosen it based on the fact that Chris had never been to Edinburgh and it could be the start of a longer trip, and because he’d never been camping. The place we stayed at, Roulotte Retreat, wasn’t camping by any means but I had found it via Canopy and Stars, a website which…

Reasons to Choose Montpellier this Summer

May 27, 2016
Montpellier

Late last September we holidayed in Montpellier for a week. I didn’t blog about it at the time as I ended up in a whirlwind of commitments and before I knew it, it just didn’t seem relevant anymore. However, now it’s getting warm again and people are planning their summer holidays, I thought it would be worth sharing why I think Montpellier is a great destination for a holiday. You can have the best of both worlds with a city…
